Yankee becomes Harry and finally has found his permanent home.

Hello German Sheperd Rescue!! I thought I would give you and update on Harry and his new adventures and friends since I adopted him on February 13th. Harry is the coolest dog I have ever met. He breezed through puppy school and graduated with flying colors. He got top honors. I really can't believe someone gave this amazing animal up. Lucky me. Anyway, Harry has at least 2 new friends. His dog brother Koby who is 14. Harry likes to lay his head on his rump and sleep. It is very cute. And then there is Maggie the cat. I can say it wasn't love at first sight for the two of them. I was a little worried about Harry playing to rough with little Maggie. But as of last week I realized that they are very happy tormenting each other. It is a true game of cat and dog. I have decided to let them have fun. Anyway, thank you for Harry. He is a blessing in so many ways. I will have him until he takes his last breath. I was thinking I may adopt another German Sheperd after Koby goes to Rainbow bridge. Not to soon I hope. Thank you!!!

Welcome Home Samantha De Borge'

Samantha (aka Bogie) blessed our home last evening and she is such a joyous addition to our family. Her new playmate is my male GSD named Tanner (aka Tam Von Denali) and while we are still having a a few slight dominance issues (she stole his side of the bed!!) they are getting along very well. She finally has a home that she can run and play in and a huge backyard to enjoy, a warm soft bed to sleep on and three kids to babysit! She's amazing with children and very loving to everyone. We are steadily working on her weight with organic dog food. She is a very intelligent little girl. Since last evening she has learned how to sit for her treats and sit at the back door before she comes back in. She loves the cookie jar!! Whenever it's opened she sneaks one out whenever she can She is a wonderful dog and we are so happy to have her in our family! THANK YOU

About Us

Founded June, 2002

I founded Colorado Canine after I lost my Kelly. She and I had a bond that I thought would never occur again with another dog. Don't get me wrong I love all my dogs but Kelly and I had that connection that sometimes never repeats itself. Anyway I was missing her so much and after 6 long months of not being ready for a new dog I decided it was time. I started to search the internet from Colorado to all points east and west hoping that the one dog that I was searching for would suddenly appear before my eyes. Then it happened. Athena was listed with German Shepherd Rescue of Northern Utah. I saw her eyes and I new she was the one. Well I immediately called Nancy and requested and application but my hopes were dashed. Someone had beaten me to the punch just a day earlier. Nancy suggested that I put an application in anyway just in case as sometimes people back out at the last moment. Well they did so my application was processed and approved. We set about preparing for our new addition. That was in late November and it was our plan to drive out to Logan Utah the very next weekend to meet Athena. Well fate seems to have a very dry sense of humor. A major snow storm came thorough that weekend and the next weekend and the next making travel impossible. Our level of frustration grew however with it so did our determination. On December 24, Christmas Eve the weather and roads cleared and we finally started our trek westward. We were so excited to get on the road that we left at crack of dawn. I settled my son in the back seat of the van with a blanket and pillow and we were on our way. Well Jessie is one of those kids that loves a little fresh air all the time so he opened the latch on the back window, you know the kind that only open an inch to let in a breeze. Well it seems timing really is everything because as Jessie was putting pressure on the window with his feet an 80 MPH gust scooped under the window ripping it from its frame. The force was so great that it sailed over two lanes of traffic slamming down past an embankment scattering millions of pieces of glass everywhere. I know unbelievable, but true. At this point your probably thinking turn around already and believe me the thought crossed my mind too.
There were two driving forces that kept me going however, the family in Colorado waiting on their new dog whom I promised to transport back and of course Athena's sweet eyes still strong in my memory. We stopped at Little America, bought up their last roll of Duct Tape, borrowed some cardboard and in no time were back on the road.

Needless to say when we saw the sign for Logan, Utah we drew a deep breath of relief. Nancy came to the street to welcome us and we carried our bags into the warmth of her home Because we had arrived later then anticipated we ran into a conflict of time with another prospective adopter that was arriving in just a few moments. Athena it seemed was at a boarding kennel a few miles away as Nancy was full at her house when she arrived. So we patiently waited as another of Nancy's dogs found a wonderful family. Then there was the feeding of the dogs and potty runs. Finally we were ready to be on our way. It was getting late so we ordered pizza and would pick it up on the way. While we waited for it to bake Nancy filled me on Athena's story. It seems that Athena had been wandering the streets of Southern Utah for some time and was picked up by animal control. She was held for the customary five days then sent to death row. Fortunately there happened to be a good Samaritan that saw the possibility in Athena and graciously saved her from her fate. This good lady with her equally sweet husband took her into their home named her and then proceeded to search for sanctuary. Nancy agreed and the guardians drove the long hours to Logan and safety.
When I heard the story of their effort I vowed right then that Athena would remain her name in honor of their devotion.

After our pizza was completed we continued on our way to the boarding kennel As we approached the building I started to feel a bit anxious and as we walked the concrete walkway through the kennel I could hear my heart pound. I had anticipated this moment for so long and only hoped that I had sought out the right girl. Then as we approached the gate I saw her face , those beautiful eyes and as she greeted me with enthusiasm, tears welled up in my eyes. I was ready to take her home.

I was so grateful to Nancy who saved so many dogs like Athena that I felt I needed to make some sort of impact too.
I knew then that I wanted to contribute to the rescue community. My first inclination was to create this website or at least the idea of this web site. I have to thank Ryan and Laura for the genius that went behind it. I wanted a one stop place where folks could find anything they needed related to dog ownership and hopefully through that help save some lives. We are very grateful to all of you that utilize this web site and others like it such as Petfinder etc and consider you all guardians for those that have no home to call their home.

Please share your happy tail , adoption story or any story that you might like to write. Not only is it nice for our readers to read these stories but it encourages others to rescue dogs as well. Thank your in advance for your stories and for visiting CCC. Mickey

PS. if you would like to see a picture of Athena who has been with me now for 6 years . Please refer to the CCC icon at the top of this page circled by Colorado Canine Connection. On the left is Lobo a dog from one of our first rescues and on the right is my sweet Athena. I told you she was beautiful
